Colin Wild

Job title: Chief Electrical Engineer

colin wild, chief electrical engineer at street crane

What has your career been like to date?:

Unusually, my whole career has been spent at Street Crane. I joined the company as an apprentice in 1983 and started working in the electrical engineering department a year later as a junior. I’ve since worked my way up the ranks and I’m now Street’s chief design engineer.

What are your main responsibilities?

On a day to day basis I check and approve all of the electrical design for each and every crane that is built by Street. I’m also responsible for liasing with our development team on new product electrical design work and existing product improvement work. This involves not only electrical design but optimising component selection and production engineering which involves a lot of work with our suppliers and in-house production team.

I am also involved with our installation and aftersales teams offering site technical diagnostic advice and support - this work has taken me to many interesting places in the UK, USA and the Middle East.

After more than 30 years at Street, I think it’s safe to say I’m the best qualified and most knowledgeable person in anything relating to electrical design at Street Crane!

What do you like about working for Street?

For many years Street has invested continuously in all of its products and I am kept on my toes with regular new design challenges – I find my work extremely interesting and it’s always rewarding to see one of our products installed and working hard for our customers in the UK and around the world.

I would also add that the people are all very friendly and I’ve been given lots of support by the company throughout my career in all aspects of my work.
